Specialty Paste PVC resin

The Specialty Paste PVC resin operations of Chemplast began in May 1967 at Mettur, near Salem in Tamil Nadu, to manufacture a variety of high quality Specialty Paste PVC resin products having a wide range of end-use applications.

Chemplast Sanmar pioneered the manufacture of speciality Paste PVC in India. It is today the country’s largest manufacturer of Specialty Paste PVC resin.

Feedstock Management

With the intention of achieving self-sufficiency in feedstock, the company completed a strategic acquisition of a chlor-alkali plant at Karaikal in August 2003, and ramped up the plant capacity. This plant had a capacity of 33,000 TPA of caustic soda and 30,000 TPA of chlorine.

This has been increased to 52,000 TPA of caustic soda and 46,000 TPA of chlorine. A downstream EDC plant of 84,000 TPA capacity, which captively utilises the chlorine from the chlor-alkali plant at Karaikal has also been set up. This plant includes a Marine Terminal facility for the import of liquid ethylene. To derive further cost advantage, the company has installed gas-based power plants with a name-plate capacity of 12 MW at this location.

Specialty Paste PVC resin

  • 123: A low molecular weight Dispersion Resin, with K value in the range of 59 to 61, recommended for use in low temperature applications in the area of leather cloth and wall paper. Can also be used as a blend component in rigid PVC formulation like rigid films.
  • 124: A medium molecular weight Dispersion Resin, with K value in the range of 64 to 66, best suited for the leathercloth industry and for applications like dip moulding and rotomoulding.
  • 120: A high-medium molecular weight Dispersion Resin, with K value in the range of 67 to 69, ideal for applications such as wall paper, dip moulding, rotomoulding, conveyor belting and tarpaulin coating.
  • 121: A high molecular weight Dispersion Resin, with K value in the range of 75 to 78, specially tailored for applications such as conveyor belting, wear layers of leather cloth and flooring.
  • 128: An ultra-high molecular weight Dispersion resin, with K value in the range of 82 to 85, especially designed to meet requirements in conveyor belting, flooring and top coat in leather cloth.

The plant can also manufacture Specialty Paste PVC resin, to meet the specific end-use requirements.

Chlorochemicals

The Chlorochemicals division of Chemplast, itself the result of backward integration by the Group, manufactures a wide range of products using a highly integrated manufacturing process. These downstream products are either chlorine derivatives or chlorine users in the production process.

Chemplast, at Mettur, changed over from Mercury based technology to Membrane cell technology for the manufacture of caustic soda in the year 2007, well ahead of the MoEF deadline of 2012.

The company has captive salt fields at Vedaranyam to make the salt needed for chlorine manufacture. The power-intensive electrolysis process of manufacturing chlorine is served by Chemplast’s own power plant.

Its constant development of environment-friendly production processes has reduced the consumption of valuable natural resources.

Caustic Chlor

  • Caustic soda lye and flakes
  • Chlorine
  • Hydrochloric acid
  • Hydrogen

Solvents (Chloroform)

Chloromethanes

  • Methyl chloride
  • Methylene dichloride
  • Chloroform
  • Carbon tetrachloride

The Solvents division manufactures Chloromethane products – Methyl chloride, Methylene chloride, Chloroform and Carbon tetrachloride.

Chemplast is one of the pioneers in the manufacture of Chloromethane products including chloroform in the country. The division also exports its products.

Refrigerant gas

The Mettron division, which commenced operations in October 1988 at Mettur, near Salem in Tamil Nadu, manufactures hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs).

Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) are named based on the number of atoms of chlorine, flourine, hydrogen and carbon present. Our grade of HCFC is manufactured and marketed under the brand name Mettron.

Hydrogen Peroxide

The Hydrogen peroxide division of Chemplast, is part of downstream integration as a value added product. The auto oxidation processes are adopted in hydrogen peroxide production and designed for a capacity of 34000 tpy of 50 percent concentration. Production process adopted is environment-friendly.

Hydrogen Peroxide is an environment-friendly chemical, used in various industries like Pulp & Paper, Textile and Water Treatment, for chemical synthesis, sterilisation, bleaching, effluent treatment etc.
