Helicord Transmissions Private Limited was established in 1972 in India with an objective to manufacture and market Timing belts, Vee belts, and Fan Belts under the brand name “HELICORD”. Today HELICORD is a specialist in Automotive Timing Belts, Multi-Ribbed V-Belts, and Raw Edge V-Belts in Cogged, Plain and Laminated constructions.

Since 2016, Helicord Transmissions is part of the Megadyne Group of Italy, the leader in Polyurethane and Rubber Industrial Power Transmission Belts.

In 2018, Megadyne Group merged with Ammeraal Beltech to form Ammega, the new Global Belting Champion.

HELICORD AUTOMOTIVE SYNCHRO-DRIVE TIMING BELTS

In developing the HELICORD Synchro-Drive Timing Belt, Helicord Transmissions set themselves the task of producing a belt that can excel alongside leading brands from America and Europe – a truly WORLD CLASS belt.

TIMING BELTS are required to cope with the ever-increasing demands put on them by the more efficient and quieter modern car engines. HELICORD Synchro-Drive timing belts are designed to last longer, carry higher loads, and operate at higher temperatures with reduced noise levels. Helicord’s team of specialist engineers developed the manufacturing process after considerable research and trials. Rigorous tests were conducted to prove the belt’s performance and life. Only the best raw materials from the World’s leading manufacturers were chosen.

1) The tooth and body of the belt are made up of a specially compounded rubber for high shear strength and resistance to oil and heat. While polychloroprene is the polymer used in the standard heat resistant belts, HSN is used in belts where higher temperature resistant properties are called for.

2) The tensile cords are made of high modulus low stretch fiberglass.

3) The backing or the overcord of the belt is again a specially compounded rubber for high resistance to oil, heat, and abrasion.

4) The tooth facing is made up of a specially woven polyamide fabric for high wear resistance and low coefficient of friction.

Though the majority of the engine manufacturers have standardized on a tooth pitch of 3/8th inch (9.525 mm) for the drive system belt and pulleys (on the camshaft, crankshaft, and ancillaries), there are few who have adopted an 8 mm pitch (with curvilinear tooth profile). Whilst the three basic tooth profiles are the trapezoidal, the curvilinear, and the modified curvilinear profiles, there are a number of variations evolved by belt manufacturers with a view to improve performance and reduce noise levels as well as to offer equivalents to other manufacturers belts.

HIGHER DRIVE EFFICIENCY

The multiple V-rib designs of HELICORD V-RIBBED BELT provide more contact area than conventional V-belts. This in combination with the excellent flexibility of the V-Ribbed belt reduces transmission losses, towers heat build-up resulting in a higher overall efficiency of the drive.

COMPACT DRIVE LAYOUT

The greater tensile and contact area of HELICORD V-RIBBED BELT increases the power transmission capacity enabling O.E. automotive engineers to replace multi V-belt accessory drives with a single HELICORD V-RIBBED BELT. Moreover, the back face of the belt is also used to drive an accessory. This unique feature enables HELICORD V-RIBBED BELT to be used in compact serpentine drives. The higher flexibility of HELICORD V-RIBBED BELT permits the use of smaller lighter pulleys ensuring optimum utilization of space and weight.

The use of high strength polyester cord, stringent quality control methods, and choice of high-quality raw materials, ensure high in-service reliability and longer service life of HELICORD V-RIBBED BELT in the high under-bonnet temperatures of modern engines.

OVER 300% LONGER SERVICE LIFE. The use of superior polymer compounds with special antidegradants and specially treated reinforcing cords in HELICORD Raw Edge belts result in a greatly increased life of the belt when compared with conventional belts.

FEWER RETENTIONS. The reinforcing Polyester cord is specially treated and stabilized which increases the modulus and greatly reduces stretch in service. This means fewer retentions and lower maintenance.

GREATER SAFETY. The use of specially treated reinforcing fibers with special chemicals in the base ensures that HELICORD Raw Edge belts give optimum performance even in hostile conditions under the bonnet.

HIGHER EFFICIENCY. The molded cog design of HELICORD Raw Edge belts ensures that hysteresis losses are reduced which translates to the higher overall efficiency of the drive

HELITENS – AUTOMATIC BELT TENSIONERS

Pressure Die Cast Aluminium Base and Arm for extra strength and accurate alignment with an in-built Belt Length Indicator.

Round wire torsion Spring made of special grade steel for better torque retention and longer service life. It also eliminates chances of dirt and grit entrapment and consequent seizure of the arm.

Engineered Polymer Pivot Bushing and Friction Pad for vibration-free and quieter operation.

Machined Steel Pulleys for reduced surface wear and to maintain the roundness of the bearings for cooler operations.

High-Quality heat-resistant Ball Bearings are permanently lubricated and sealed for longer service life.

HELITENS Tensioners are available for a wide range of heavy-duty and off-road applications.
