What are concrete, absolute and essential Ginger oils?
To produce a natural scent for perfume and aromatherapy, many of the most fragrant flowers must be turned into absolutes. Absolutes include neroli orange blossom, jasmine, rose, and osmanthus, to name a few. The flowers are picked fresh and placed in a sealed container to soak in an alcohol or hexane solution.
The solvent circulated over the flowers dissolves the essential oils. Concrete is a semisolid, waxy substance created by this technique. In aromatherapy and perfumes, concretes are extensively employed as base notes. They have a perfume and texture that reminds us of the plant, as well as a long-lasting strength that makes them a perfect option for a low or base note that keeps the aromas’ fragrance for hours, if not days.
When concretes are diluted in an aroma blend, they leave a residue that can be filtered off.
