Propylene Oxide

In the cumene process, cumene is oxidized with air to yield cumene hydroperoxide, which is then decomposes to PO and phenol.
Propylene oxide is a highly flammable liquid and vapor. It can be explosive when heated or mixed with other flammable chemicals. PO can react violently with oxidizing agents, acids, and bases. It is corrosive to metals and is an irritant to the skin, eyes, and respiratory tract.
