METAL FORGINGS CAPABILITIES
Tool Manufacturing
All of the MMF forging plants is equipped with in-house tool rooms. The Tool room is equipped with state-of-the-art Vertical Machining centres for tool manufacturing. MMF has the capability to machine die blocks up to 3m in length.
Precision tool manufacturing is critical for quality forging. Understanding this, MMF introduced Vertical machining centers for tool machining way back in 1991 and is one of the first in the country to do so. Tool steel is procured from reputed international manufacturers from across the globe. Tools steels of several grades like H13, H11, and DIN 2714 are used based on the application.
Tool machining is done using state of the art Vertical Machining Centres for high-speed die machining. The manufactured tools go through rigorous inspection process before being released for production. To optimize the material usage and improve the output of the tools, MMF introduced robotic die welding and surface treatment of the forging tools.
Forging
MMF has wide variety of production lines spread across its manufacturing locations. MMF is leading manufacturer of closed die hot forgings. All our forging lines are equipped with state-of-the-art billet temperature control mechanisms. MMF boasts of wide variety of production lines to cater to satisfy the variety of customer needs. MMF has automated high speed production lines and also can take parts with small batch sizes. MMF intends to be “One stop shop” for the customers closed die forging requirements.
Mechanical forging presses of 1600T to 8000T capacity forms the backbone of MMF manufacturing capability. MMF produces wide variety of components in the weight range of 100 grams to 120 kilo grams for Passenger cars, Commercial vehicles and other industries.
MMF has several production lines of CNC forging machines, Hydraulic presses, Pneumatic hammers and drop hammers to cater to the diverse requirements of closed die forgings.
MMF manufactures forgings in 3 locations in the state of Tamilnadu. The first plant was started in 1974 in the town of Singampunari with drop hammer forgings. This has quickly to the press forgings in the beginning of 1990’s to CNC controlled machines in 2000’s. Currently MMF has a established capacity of 100,000 Metric Tonnes per annum.
Heat Treatment
Heat treatment of the part is very important to the quality of the forgings. MMF is capable to heat treat parts as per the requirements of the customers.
MMF has the following heat treatment facilities:
- Normalizing
- Hardening and tempering
- Annealing
- Control cooling
- Case carburizing
- Induction hardening
Hardening furnaces has the option to use the quench medium of water, polymer or oil based on the customer and product requirements.
Facilities include several oil-fired furnace, Gas fired furnaces, Electrical furnaces and Seal Quench furnaces. All our forging plants are equipped with adequate heat treatment facility. All the heat treatment furnaces are calibrated and certified as per the requirements on a regular basis.
MMF is equipped with state of the art metallographic and microscopic material inspection requirements to ensure the quality of heat treatment process. All the plants have inspection facilities for the following:
- Spectro analyzer
- Microscope
- Image analyzer
- Universal testing machine
- Impact testing machine
- Rockwell / Brinell hardness testing machine
- Digital hardness checking machine
- Salt spray test chamber
MMF labs is the nodal centre for incoming material qualifications as well as certification of the outgoing material quality for metallurgical parameters.
Machining
MMF boasts of state of the machining capability in all of manufacturing locations.
MMF’s foray in to machining started in 1998, when MMF acquired “Gears India” in Chennai and started machining operations. The machining operations were merged into Plant-4 in Chennai to become the first integrated forge and machine shop in Chennai.
With continuous improvement in process design and focus in product development, their machining portfolio grew as more and more customers were looking for machined parts.“Quality in parts and processes” is the backbone of the organization. As the requirements for machined parts grew, they started machining units in all their manufacturing units.
They currently have more than 300 VMC’s, CNC’s and SPM’s spread across our manufacturing locations. MMF has a battery of state-of-the-art Special purpose machines for machining of front axle beams.MMF has established 4 lines for machining knuckles for commercial vehicle segment.
“DVS Industries” – a 100% subsidiary of MMF is a specialist in crankshaft machining located in Pant Nagar, Uttarakhand. DVS industries have the capacity to do 30k crankshafts a month for commercial vehicle and tractor industry. The range of crankshafts starts from 2 cylinder and can do up to 6-cylinder crankshafts.
