Acoustic Valves
Faurecia Clean Mobility is dedicated to developing innovations that will help automakers reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions by shedding weight from cold-end exhaust components. An example of this is Faurecia’s proprietary nickel brazing technology, which allows for the assembly of cold-end components that are less than 1 mm wide. The company is also working on other innovations that will maintain the sound absorption performance of lighter, more slimline mufflers.
Faurecia is also leveraging its expertise in composite materials to reduce vehicle weight. Composites are made by combining resins with reinforcing fibers, offering automakers a way to improve fuel efficiency. Faurecia’s strategy involves both reducing vehicle weight and controlling production costs. The company aims to develop materials, processes, and products that can be mass-manufactured, and is working on achieving weight reductions in structural and semi-structural carbon fiber parts for high-volume production.
As a member of the FORCE consortium, Faurecia is part of a group of stakeholders in the carbon fiber market that is working to make the technology accessible to all automakers. Faurecia Clean Mobility is also focusing on shaping the automotive industry’s transition towards electric and driverless cars by pioneering composite applications for these vehicles.
Ammonia Storage and Delivery System ASDS
Faurecia’s Ammonia Storage and Delivery System (ASDSTM) technology for reducing nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions was introduced two years ago as a better alternative to liquid urea AdBlue®. ASDSTM uses ammonia stored as a salt in solid form, called AdAmmine, which is converted to gas after the engine has started. When routed to the exhaust line, the gas converts NOx into non-polluting nitrogen and water, treating emissions within minutes of the engine starting and at low exhaust temperatures that are typical in city driving conditions.
Gasoline and Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs)
Enhancing air quality can be achieved by removing particulate matter from diesel or gasoline vehicle exhaust to meet the latest regulatory standards, particularly in real-world conditions.
Catalytic Converters Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs)
Over the past decade, Faurecia Clean Mobility has helped reduce pollutant emissions by providing car manufacturers with advanced solutions for emission control in both diesel and gasoline engines. The company has strengthened its position as a leader in Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems for reducing nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from diesel engines. Its innovative close-coupled SCR BlueBox® compact mixer technology is now part of the exhaust system for various applications. This technology can eliminate up to 95% of engine NOx emissions, making it compatible with Euro 6c standards for 2017 and Euro 6d requirements for 2020.
In addition to its SCR technology, Faurecia Clean Mobility has also introduced a new Ammonia Storage and Delivery System (ASDS™) developed by its subsidiary Amminex. This system stores ammonia as a solid and releases it into the exhaust stream as a gas, reducing NOx emissions from diesel-powered city buses by up to 99%. Faurecia has adapted this technology for use in private cars and vans, and is currently exploring other potential applications for ASDS™ in agricultural and earthmoving machinery, as well as in high-horsepower engines used in motorboats and marine propulsion.
Exhaust Heat Power Generation EHPG
Faurecia Clean Mobility has a decade of experience in exhaust heat recovery systems and is using this expertise to develop next-generation systems. The company is also collaborating with customers on joint development projects, particularly focused on its Exhaust Heat Power Generation (EHPG) technology.
Exhaust Heat Recovery System EHRS
Faurecia Clean Mobility’s Exhaust Heat Recovery System (EHRS) is designed to capture a significant amount of the energy that is typically lost as heat through a vehicle’s exhaust system. The company claims that its EHRS can recover up to 75% of this energy. The system is particularly well-suited for use in hybrid vehicles, as it can help reduce fuel consumption by up to 7% by enabling the engine and cabin to warm up more quickly. This, in turn, allows the vehicle to spend more time in electric drive mode. The EHRS made its global debut on the Hyundai IONIQ hybrid and is considered to be one of the most competitive solutions available.
Selective Catalytic Reduction SCR
Faurecia Clean Mobility is a leading provider of Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems, which are used to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from diesel engines. The company has recently introduced its innovative close-coupled SCR BlueBox® compact mixer technology, which enables more catalyst volume to be used in the system, up to 0.5L. This improves the efficiency of the DeNox process, helping to further reduce NOx emissions.
Composite Spare Wheel Tray Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs)
A composite spare wheel tray is a lightweight, durable component that is used to hold a spare tire in a vehicle. These trays are typically made from a combination of materials, such as plastic and carbon fiber, which makes them strong and resistant to damage. They are also often designed to be easily removable, allowing for easy access to the spare tire when it is needed. In addition to providing a secure location for the spare tire, composite spare wheel trays can also help to improve the overall fuel efficiency of a vehicle by reducing its weight.
Resonance Free Pipe
A resonance free pipe is a type of exhaust system component that is designed to reduce or eliminate the presence of resonant frequencies. Resonant frequencies are caused by the movement of gases through a pipe, and they can create unwanted noise and vibration. A resonance free pipe is typically made from materials that are specifically chosen to absorb or dissipate these frequencies, resulting in a quieter and smoother exhaust system. In addition to improving the overall performance of the exhaust system, a resonance free pipe can also help to reduce wear and tear on other components, increasing the lifespan of the vehicle.
Mercedez Benz Unimog Door
The Mercedes-Benz Unimog is a series of all-terrain vehicles that are known for their versatility and durability. The Unimog door is a key component of these vehicles, as it provides access to the cabin and also helps to protect the occupants from the elements. The door is typically made from strong and durable materials, such as steel or aluminum, and is designed to withstand the rigors of off-road driving. It may also be equipped with additional features, such as windows or mirrors, to improve visibility and provide additional functionality. Overall, the Unimog door is an important component of these vehicles, helping to ensure the safety and comfort of the occupants.
