DUCTILE IRON PIPES
Ductile Iron is an improved variety of Cast Iron invented in 1949. It is also known as Spheroidal Graphite Iron or Nodular Cast Iron. Centrifugally cast Ductile Iron pipes are one of the most preferred materials for water supply and sewerage applications across the world due to their host of advantages. Pipes made from Ductile Cast Iron provide substantial benefits in terms of pressure bearing ability, impact resistance, and capacity to sustain external static/ dynamic loading.
Properties
Properties | Ductile Iron Pipe |
Tensile Strength | Min. 420 MPa |
Yield Strength | 300 MPa |
Elongation (min) at break | 10% |
Modulus of Elasticity | 1.7 x 1010 Kg/M2 |
Hardness | Max. 230 BHN |
DUCTILE IRON FLANGE PIPES
Electrosteel manufactures Flange Pipes using all three methods, i.e. Welded-on Flanged Pipes, Screwed-on Flanged Pipes and ‘As Cast’ Flanged Pipes, as per IS:8329, ISO:2531, and BS EN:545.
Flanged Pipe type | Diameter Range | Available Pressure Ratings |
Welded Flange Pipes | ||
Flanges are welded on either or both ends of the barrel. As per customer requirement, flanges are sometimes welded on the barrel at a point other than the ends which are called Puddle flanges. | Dia. 80 to 1000 mm. Length- up to 5.0 metres | PN 10, PN 16 and PN25 (PN40 on request) |
Screwed Flange Pipes | ||
Flanges are screwed on the barrel instead of welding. | Dia. 80 to 300 mm. Length- up to 5.0 metres | PN 10 and PN 16 |
‘As Cast’ Flange Pipes | ||
Cast as a single unit using advanced Lost Foam technology | Dia. 80 to 600 mm | PN 10, PN 16, PN25 |
Application
Overground and exposed installations: Ideal for overground pipelines and crossovers such as on pillars, over a canal, or other water bodies, roads, and bridges.
As self-restrained joint: Flange Joints are rigid but can act as a restrained joint reducing the requirement of thrust blocks and external restraining devices.
Vertical pipelines: Vertical pipelines used in skyscrapers, treatment plants, pump houses, elevated/overhead service reservoirs are normally installed with DI Flanged pipes.
Interconnection and connection for accessories: Vertical pipelines used in skyscrapers, treatment plants, pump houses, elevated/overhead service reservoirs are normally installed with DI Flanged pipes.
Temporary installations: Where pipelines need to be disengaged or transferred from one location to the other.
Advantages of ductile iron flange pipes
Stronger: Ductile Iron Flanged Pipes are much stronger because of their higher tensile strength and better impact resistance.
A higher factor of safety: It offers a higher factor of safety against pressure fluctuations, water hammers,s and outside impacts.
Lighter to use: DI Flange Pipes are lighter compared to CI Flanged pipes, reducing handling and transportation cost.
Negligible breakages in transit and during handling: Does not break on sudden impacts. Loss due to transportation and handling is minimized.
Reduced pumping costs: The Pipes are centrifugally cemented mortar lined. This results in a smooth inside surface which reduces friction loss.
Longer life and excellent corrosion resistance: Inside cement mortar lining does not allow corrosion of the internal surface. The external Zinc/Zinc Aluminium finished with Bitumen/Epoxy etc coatings offer robust protection against external corrosion.
Dimensional accuracy & better finish: Centrifugal casting of Flange Pipes ensures uniform wall thickness and excellent surface finish that cannot be achieved in green sand casting due to floating, shifting, or deformation of the core
DUCTILE IRON FITTINGS
Electrosteel Castings Limited is one of the premier manufacturers of Ductile Iron Fittings in India. The fittings are manufactured in two plants, at Khardah and Haldia (in West Bengal) – where the fittings are made with the most modern casting techniques like Vacuum Lost Foam Process (VLFP), High-pressure Moulding Process and ‘No bake’ Moulding Process. Both these plants are equipped with the latest machinery, sophisticated finishing facilities, and modern testing laboratories. Since Electrosteel manufactures both pipes and fittings, it is a one-stop shop for your pipeline requirement, offering excellent compatibility between pipes and fittings.
Electrosteel – DI Fittings ( Ductile Iron Fittings ) – The Preferred Choice
- Quality as per International benchmarks.
