BONE MEAL

Bone Meal is a raw, crushed Cattle bones below the size of 1.5 mm.

It has the following advantages.

It is a natural source of phosphate fertilizer which provides ions that can be readily absorbed by plants compared to chemical fertilizers.

Contains the comparable amount of total ‘P’ (about 8%) to that in single Superphosphate (SSP) (about 9%P) Contains Nitrogen as well (3.5 – 4%) which can be expected to give a greater crop yield compared to individual application of ‘P’ and ‘N’

The ability to slow the release of nutrients makes it more efficient than soluble fertilizers.

Food products derived from organically produced crops are considered to have a greater value in terms of health and palatability and for this reason, they will fetch premium prices, after double the price of products obtained from chemical fertilizers farming especially economically developed countries. (This may not be relevant if the products are targeted to the local market)

BONE GLUE / TECHNICAL GELATIN

Bone glue is a protein derived from the simple hydrolysis of collagen, which is the principal protein constituted of connective tissue and bones. Glue is essentially composed of polyamides and certain alpha-aminoacids. Glue is a polydisperse system containing a mixture of similar molecules of widely differing molecular weights. The molecular weight of glue is always an average, ranging from 20,000 to 250,000. The important properties to determine the grade of glue are its gel strength and viscosity.

Applications: It is used in a wide range of industries and in the manufacture of products like coated abrasives, (emery paper, emery rolls, Discs, rayon yarn sizing, high-grade printer roller composition, sizing of paper, damp-proof safety matches, oil bound distemper, ivory work, paper cartons, gum paper tapes, cones, furniture pencils, chemical industries as flocculating agents, etc.

STEAMED HORN AND HOOF MEAL

Horns & hooves are available in sizable quantities in India. These are strictly non-edible items generated from the slaughtered animal. It is being used as a fertilizer in the UK, Japan, Germany. It is an ideal fertilizer to be used in crops where a slow release of nitrogen is required over a long period. Traditionally, horns & hooves have been used for the manufacture of a number of useful products such as buttons, combs, knife handles, fancy and decorative articles. Horns & hooves are very rich in nitrogen (14%). Which makes Them an idle raw material for use as organic fertilizer. This is done by stem digestion of horns & hooves under pressure in a wet rendering vessel and milling the digested stock into powder, called steamed horns & hoof meal. Horns & hoof meal is noted for its delayed disintegration in the soil which takes as long as two to three years. For this reason, it is a favorite fertilizer for use in horticulture and fruit growing.

The major Industrial application of SHHM is in the manufacture of Foam compounds for fire fighting foam and keratin for liquid plant nutrients.
