Aurolab manufactures a wide range of high-quality ophthalmic consumables such as Iols/intraocular lenses, surgical sutures, pharmaceutical products, surgical blades, and equipment. It’s based in the southern part of India and is an integral part of the Aravind Eye Care System.

Though its primary focus is on the ophthalmic segment, Aurolab is diversifying into related health care areas where its existing capabilities can be leveraged, such as cardiovascular sutures, microsurgical hand sutures, antiseptics and disinfectant solutions, spectacle cleaner, etc.

Aurolab’s growth and product development criteria are driven by societal needs for high-quality products at affordable prices. All Aurolab products are manufactured on efficient production lines with strict quality assurance measures that comply with US FDA, EU GMP, WHO GMP norms. Aurolab’s products are exported to 130 and more countries worldwide, with focus markets like India, Africa, Latin America, Central America, and Southeast Asia. Aurolab envisages entering European and other developed markets on the strength of its product quality and as a strategic means to cross-subsidized products in needy markets.

IOLS/Intraocular Lens

Aurolab’s IOL division was set up in the year 1992 with only 10 production staff to manufacture three-piece PMMA intraocular lenses with technology transfer from the USA. The dream of making the IOLs available at a price affordable for rural patients was achieved when Aurolab delivered high-quality IOLs at Rs.270/- per lens.

Subsequently, Aurolab invested and launched single-piece PMMA IOLs in 1994. Over the years it built its reputation for consistent quality and the ability to introduce new models as per the requirements of the ophthalmic surgeons. Low power IOLs, negative power IOLs, anterior chamber IOLs, and scleral fixation IOLs and capsular tension rings were launched in regular intervals

In the year 1998, the IOL division received ISO certification and in 1999 received CE certification for its products. Both the certifications were first in the Indian IOL industry, which demonstrated our quality standard and quality consciousness.

In the year 2002 Aurolab introduced its hydrophilic acrylic IOL and in 2007 its Hydrophobic acrylic IOL, Aurovue. Today this division manufactures a wide variety of IOLs including premium, new technology IOLs. Aurolab Lenses are exported to over 120 countries worldwide.

Along with its IOL manufacturing expertise, Aurolab also developed its design capabilities. A refection of this capability was evident with the successful launch of 360-degree square edge design in PMMA lenses first and subsequently in hydrophilic and hydrophobic foldable IOLs, Negative aspheric design in foldable IOLs, modified CTRs, and Keratoprosthesis.

In an effort to lower the cost of necessary drugs, Aurolab created its Pharma Division in 1997 with the goal of becoming a constant and consistent source of high-quality ophthalmic pharmaceuticals.

Aurolab has developed a wide range of ophthalmic drugs that are cost-effective, especially in developing countries. The modern state-of-the-art pharmaceutical formulation facility produces Eye Drops, Retinal products, Viscoelastic, Ophthalmic Dyes, and Antiseptics and Disinfectants.

Aurolab has received the prestigious CE mark certification for HPMC and Trypan Blue, Perfluoro-n-octane, Silicon Oil, and Brilliant Blue G. The World Health Organization (WHO) Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) certification was awarded to the division, confirming that all AUROLAB pharmaceutical products are made in compliance with international standards.

Suture Needle Iols

Aurolab opened its Suture Needle Division in 1998 to reduce the cost of cataract surgery. Established with technical knowledge from Europe, our state-of-the-art facility manufactures high-quality suture needles used in Ophthalmic Surgery.

Aurolab Suture Needle Division is certified by UL as ISO 9001:2008. Ptosis sling, Suture needles in PGA, Nylon, and Silk are certified by USFDA, and PGA, Nylon, Silk, Polyester, and Polypropylene are CE certified. To bring down the cost of microsurgery, the Suture Needle Division has recently introduced polypropylene and nylon range of suture needles.

Ophthalmic Equipment Iols

After 13 years of existence as an ophthalmic surgical consumable manufacturer, Aurolab started its Equipment Division in the year 2005. It entered this entirely new area as it was driven by the need to design, develop and make available a green laser Photocoagulator required for the treatment of diabetic retinopathy at an affordable price. This product was launched in January 2009 addressing the need initially set to achieve. Since then few more products have been taken up for development and recently a Digital Vision Chart was launched by the Division.

Surgical Blades Iols

Aurolab’s surgical blade division was started in the year 2005 with a mandate to manufacture and supply ophthalmic surgical knives with high quality consistently at an affordable price to developing countries. To this effect, Aurolab’s blade division introduced the brand “Aurosharp”, a flat stock profiled blades manufactured from high-quality SS strips. Aurosharp was initially launched to Aravind Eye hospital and then gradually to other markets.

Aurolab manufactures all ranges of ophthalmic surgical blades meeting the industrial standards with the strict quality system throughout the entire production process ensuring zero-defect till despatch. Aurolab knives provide smooth incisions, enhancing the surgeon’s experience and meeting their high expectations. It achieved the stringent product quality CE mark certification for this range in the year 2010.

This division also launched a range of superior surgical knives, Nanocut, manufactured through a highly automated chemical etching process with matt finish. These knives compete with knives made in USA/Europe by offering high quality and lesser prices, thereby enhancing the value for the buyer.

Aurolab has launched its tip guarded blades manufactured through micro-grinding technology with an ultra-thin profile ensuring consistency in sharpness.
