T-shirt sublimation is a type of printing process that utilizes heat to transfer dye into fabric. Colors and images are dye-sublimated onto transfer paper.

Sublimation printing on t-shirts is one of the simplest ways to print t-shirts. Only Polyester based t-shirts can be printed with the sublimation process.

The process involves an already printed but negative image on paper which is transmitted to the polyester t-shirt by simply placing and pressed with a certain temperature.

It is one of the economical ways to print the team’s logo and small patterns. Since the papers are printed on digital printing machines so there are no restrictions on the number of colors, therefore, the quality of prints is very good.

Suitable fabrics for dye sublimation are 100% polyester, nylon, lycra. spandex (elastane). General rule of thumb is the man-made materials. The material absorbs the ink through a gas transfer process under pressure and heat. Generally around 280 degrees at 1.5 minutes for best results. Some run higher heat and quicker times but results vary based on the time you give the ink to release from the printed paper to absorb into the man-made fibers. Dye sub inks will not adhere to the cotton fibers. You can print a blended shirt but keep in mind if you dye sublimate a 60/40 poly/cotton blend the print will look faded and when you wash it the first time it will fade even more as the portion that is applied to the cotton fabric will come off.
